SINCE 1606
The history of our establishment goes back more than 400 years: the Loygut was first mentioned in official records in 1606, with ownership at that time in the hands of a certain Adam Loy.
1917-1957
In
1917, Franz and Maria Moser purchased the property known as the Loy. At
that time, it consisted of an inn with its own farm. Together with their six
children – all of whom worked hard in the business – they managed to turn the
Loy into a popular guesthouse. In the 1920s, Franz and Maria also built the
region’s first swimming pool on their land.
1957-1980
In
1957, they handed the business over to their son Franz and his wife Therese.
The original inn building was in poor condition and had to undergo extensive
renovations. For their time, Franz and Therese were already forward-thinking when
it came to tourism: the building now had central heating, and all rooms boasted
running water – some even with private bathrooms. The on-site swimming pool was
also rebuilt during this period.
1980-2013
In
1980, the next generation took over: daughter Hilde Stiegler began managing the
inn, while her brother Franz continued to run the farm. Between 1982 and 1986,
the property was operated as a guesthouse in the school holidays and as an
agricultural school during term time. Starting in 1996, the Loy was leased to
the Province of Styria and became home to the Agricultural and Forestry School
of Gröbming.
2013-2021
Back
to its roots: in 2013, Lambert and Martina Stiegler took over the business. Conducting
comprehensive renovations, they transformed the former school into the modern
hotel and restaurant we know today. On 1 December 2014, they celebrated the
grand reopening of their establishment, now featuring 7 double rooms, 9 suites,
and an à la carte restaurant.
2017
100
years of ownership by the Loy family.
2021
It is modernized: a new wellness area is added. Guests can now access the spa oasis directly from their rooms via a light-filled walkway. There, they find everything a wellness aficionado could possibly wish for: a panoramic sauna, steam bath, infrared cabin, relaxation room with a cozy nook, and a sun terrace. Also new: a photovoltaic system now produces the hotel’s own green energy, while guests can enjoy the convenience of an EV charging station right in front of the hotel.
